The development of personality linked to the universal, transcends the limits of the individual and of the ego in particular. There is no separate self from the others, but a self, a full self, different and similar to the others at a time. The inner dynamism tends towards unity and towards overcoming contradictions, beginning with the notion of life and death.
The nature of consciousness is unique and deeply studied in Zen. One picture clearly illustrates the transformation that is established: it is the image of the symbolical doorway between the conscious and the unconscious. This door usually opens only to the outside, but it should become “banging,” free.
Zen is the path without impasses. It teaches us to be aware of our own resources and of the deep humanity that is in every one of us.
